Hidden Depths

HIDDEN DEPTHS

A Caselberg Trust fund-raising event at Portobello Aquarium - 7.00PM, Thursday 3 December (tomorrow).

I'll be talking about art, science, Euclidian geometry, porcelain bell vessels, ice, music, invisible tides, katabatic winds, uni-cellular aquatic organisms and a red polar haven (amongst other things). I'm not the world's funniest person, but I am passionate about Antarctica and hope that by the end of the hour you'll be feeling that way, too.

The Caselberg Trust does terrific work in support of New Zealand's artists and writers. Please come along - the more the merrier.

An admission fee of $20.00 includes wine and seafood nibbles. (Door sales - or you can book ahead of time by phoning the NZ Marine Studies Centre on 479 5826)

  5. Lovely to see you there last night, PC. Thanks for being there. There was a wonderful sense of community - there's something about the peninsula and its people... enough to make one want to live out there!

  6. Hi Mary McC - there was lots of blue for you! Wouldn't it have been great if you'd been able to hop on down for the night... (actually, I'd love to come and share some of these passions on the N.Island some time?!).

The 'Hidden Depth' pic shows a flotilla of gessoed and painted bamboo boats adrift beneath the Explorers Cove ice (in Antarctica, from last year's season down there). It's the 'face' of a silent film I'm working on.

Happy days to you == C

  7. It was a fantastic evening - great crowd, lovely weather, brilliant venue - at the Portobello marine Studies centre - a fascinating talk and amazing slides, and the food and wine also yummy!

Thanks so much for your generosity Claire. It was such a good event and your insights were so sensitive and thought-provoking. Maybe you should do the talk in Wellington so Mary and others can experience it too?

  8. Thanks for your feedback, PC - it was great that you were there. We certainly live in a big-hearted place.

I would love to share these experiences with our N.Island community. Who knows... perhaps that's yet another reason to set it down in book form? 2010 - a year much anticipated for such things. L, C x
