You are certainly being pro-active, taking up Japanese in anticipation of your trip there later this year. How thrilling it will be to stand on their soil. Seamus Heaney's line will have meaning for you, too.

Vanda - hello! Beware (and welcome!) the allure of lands foreign. It's curious to think that the things that capture our children's imaginations (and ours, mind) through their growing years are the things that are more than likely going to turn up again in some form or other when they're adults. It's pretty wonderful, really!Claire Beynonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00005365677016923903noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5100640878581081403.post-32875613126141792982009-05-23T19:26:44.733+12:002009-05-23T19:26:44.733+12:00Hello Aq. One of the very first paintings I completed after immigrating to NZ (in the 1990's) carried this line as its title. It suggests connection rather than separation, which is a cheerful notion. It's a little like accepting that the horizon is nothing more than an illusion/the temporary limit of our vision?

Thanks for the suggestion re; writing a memoir. I guess in some ways, everything we do that gives some shape or expression to our life experience is in its way 'memoir'? But, yes, a written collection would be a rather lovely thing to proactively engage in at some stage. Interestingly, my daughter suggested the same thing to me not so long ago. It may be these are prompts I need to listen to more closely?

You recognize the spirit vial, too! Sometime soon, I will write more about these circular vials, about builders' levels and the enigmatic bubbles that inhabit their gorgeous transparent spaces, intent on finding the place of poise...

These are the things and themes that I'm engaged with in the studio at the moment.Claire Beynonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00005365677016923903noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5100640878581081403.post-77644729042565497862009-05-23T12:07:47.441+12:002009-05-23T12:07:47.441+12:00And I am looking at Mr Nine-year-old and Mr Seven-...And I am looking at Mr Nine-year-old and Mr Seven-year-old, with their fascination and obsession with Egypt and sighing...Vanda Symonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09956034768397598056noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5100640878581081403.post-54795223759258801832009-05-21T21:06:12.008+12:002009-05-21T21:06:12.008+12:00This is beautifully written Claire. You have a stirring way with memory and the heart's truth.

"The sea is the land's edge also"-- Seamus HeaneyAquarian Ayenoreply@blogger.com
